So this morning I’m reading the Home News-Tribune from East Brunswick, NJ. One of the lead articles is titled: “Full-size cardboard figure spurs bank standoff in Montgomery.” Oh boy! This can only go downhill from here.
For those who may not be aware, or those reading this way in the future from 2008, most banks like Bank of America, PNC Bank, and Wachovia have been placing life-sized cutouts of men and women either holding signs or with text nearby advertising various instruments (what used to be called products) available from the bank. These are checking accounts, savings, CDs, mortgages, etc. Anyway, below is a reprint of the article and some of the funnier comments people have made as of the writing of this entry.

A standoff at a Somerset County bank ended when police learned a “”person” seen inside was actually a full-size cardboard figure.
Officers went to the PNC Bank in Montgomery Township after an alarm went off there at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27. Upon arrival, they saw what they thought was at least one person through the windows of the bank, which had its blinds drawn.
The area was sealed off and three nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution. Meanwhile, authorities used bullhorns and made telephone calls in a bid to make contact with whoever might be in the bank.
After repeatedly failing to get a response, a SWAT team entered the building shortly after 10 p.m. and soon discovered the cardboard figure.
It was not immediately clear what set off the bank alarm, and authorities were trying to determine whether anyone had attempted to enter the bank.
wizardofnoz: I wonder what his weapon of choice was ? A pen or a pencil ?
wizardofnoz: The card board bandit ? What were his list of demands ? To release the card board boxes in the bank ???????????????????
MOLPLAS: Double time and a half working on a Holiday.I’m surprised they didnt milk that situation out until morning at least…
scara7: Let’s see, Thanksgiving night… bank is closed… figure in window hasn’t moved for hours….. uuuuuuuuuuuh… CALL SWAT!
njpaddy: And no one in charge noticed the figure didn’t move in an hour and a half? So much for all that homeland security money. Folks in Somerset Co better cover their nativity sets after dark.
